Following his stirring displays in the recently ended DStv Diski Challenge campaign, Stellenbosch FC winger Langelihle Phili has scored a trial overseas.

The 17-year-old, who is among the nominees for the Diski Challenge Player of the Season award alongside Cape Town City midfielder Jody Ah Shene and Sundowns midfielder Ntandoyenkosi Nkosi, left Mzansi this past weekend.

Phili is expected to spend at least two weeks in Stockholm, where he will be assessed by Allsvenskan giants Djurgårdens IF in Sweden with hopes of joining them if he impresses.

Phili was among the key players for Stellenbosch on their quest to clinch their second DStv Diski Challenge title.

“An exciting player who will be with us for the next two weeks. He was actually supposed to be here already in March, but it did not quite work out then. Now, however, he is in place and will start training with DIF PA19 on Monday”, Djurgårdens sports manager Bosse Andersson told the club website.

After winning the Diski Challenge, Phili earned his first team debut with a cameo appearance in their last match of the season against Richards Bay FC.

Now, he has an opportunity to take his career to greater heights if he does well in Sweden.

Phili joined Stellenbosch reserves at the beginning of the season from AmaZulu FC.
