Chiefs defender gets World Cup recall from Mozambique

Just weeks after making his comeback for Kaizer Chiefs, utility back Edmilson has been included in Mozambique’s World Cup squad for vital qualifiers later this month.
The 30-year-old made his comeback at the start of the month for Chiefs after being out of action since July and has played in three games since, with AmaKhosi winning two.
Edmilson featured as left back in the Betway Premiership fixtures against Mamelodi Sundowns and Magesi, as well as last Saturday’s controversial Nedbank Cup quarterfinal triumph over Stellenbosch.
But he is also adept at centre back, where Mozambique could also use him for their Group G qualifiers against Uganda and Algeria.
Mozambique share the lead in the group with Algeria, both having nine points from their opening four games.
They will clash in Tizi Ouzou on March 25 but Mozambique play Uganda before that on March 20 in Cairo.
The fixture should have been hosted in Maputo but damage to the Zimpeto Stadium has forced a belated change.
Mozambique coach Chiquinho Conde has kept faith with former Premier Soccer League Player of the SeaSon Dominguez (Elias Pelembe) in the squad despite the fact he is now 41 years old.
