The exodus from Stellensboch is continuing weekend as the club has lost two more players – this time to overseas moves.

Following in the wake of the high profile transfers of top scorer Iqraam Rayners to champions Mamelodi Sundowns and captain Dean van Rooyen to Orlando Pirates, Stellenbosch have now seen Ivorian attacker Anicet Oura move to Qatar and Antonio van Wyk go to Austria.

Oura has moved on loan to Muaither in Qatar, who are based in Doha and play in the second division. They kick off their new league season on Thursday.

Van Wyk has signed for SV Ried where he will resume his relationship with Moritz Kossmann, who he first worked with at Ubuntu Cape Town.

Ried play in Austrian second division, where they are top of the table with a 100 per cent record after five matches.

"Antonio van Wyk has exactly the profile we were looking for. He has very good depth and also brings great strengths in the game between the lines. He really wanted to come to Europe and our assistant coach Moritz Kossmann gave us precise information about what makes Toni tick and how he fits in with us. Toni will certainly need some time to get used to things and we will give him that," explained Wolfgang Fiala, the club’s sport director.

“The departure of Van Wyk, who graduated from Stellenbosch’s development structures after signing from the Ubuntu FC academy, is symbolic of the Club’s continued commitment to developing local talent and providing them with the opportunity to shine on the biggest stages,” Stellenbosch said in a statement.

Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker said weeks ago he was hoping to keep intact his squad from last season as his club pressed for more honours.

They won the Carling Knockout last season, finishing a club high third in the league and also qualified for African club competition for the first time.

But the lure of moving to better supported and more established teams, or overseas, proved stronger with Fawaaz Basadien still possibly on his way to Chiefs and centre back Ismael Toure also loking for an international move.

The transfer window in South Africa is still open.
