Bahir Dar City drove firmly into the title race with an emphatic 1-0 win over Dire Dawa City as Adama City piled more misery on Shashemene City with a 1-0 win in Thursday's Ethiopia Premier League clashes at the Hawassa University Stadium.

Adama City's goal came in the 49th minute through Nebil Nuri.

The win moves Adama City from sixth to fifth in the league standings with 37 points.

They are three points behind fourth-placed Bahir Dar City who have 40 points.

Shashemene City, meanwhile, began their Hawassa City ride with a defeat, which now means they have failed to win in their last seven games.

They have also not scored a goal in their last six games.

Bahir Dar City's 1-0 win over Dire Dawa City further reinforces their reputation as the most in-form team in the league.

It was a win which catapults them firmly into the title race with CBE, Mekelakeya and St George, making this now a four-horse race.

This was Dire Dawa's first defeat in their last 11 matches, a run which saw them win six games and draw four to place them in eighth spot with 33 points, a good return for coach Shimels Abebe since he took over.

However, Bahir Dar City have also been unbeaten in their last nine matches, winning six and scoring 10 goals and only conceding three times.

Habtamu Tadesse's 17th-minute goal was all they needed to grab all three points which moved them above defending champions St George into third place

The Horsemen are now in fourth spot with Bahir Dar firmly in the title race, and only one point behind second-placed Mekelakeya and six points behind leaders CBE.

The team is only four points away from Kedus Giorgis, who is currently in third place and is only four points away from the second- placed Mechal.
