In the wake of being announced today as host broadcaster of the 2023 Netball World Cup, taking place in South Africa, SuperSport has confirmed it will have an all-female production crew for the tournament.

This will be the first time in 16 editions of the event - dating to 1963 - that the broadcast will be entirely female-led. Headed up by Dheshnie Naidoo, SuperSport’s head of production operations, the project is designed to ensure the crew is assembled and prepared to broadcast the event locally and internationally.

Naidoo has already spent several months on the project and heads up theory and practical training in the lead-up to the 60-match tournament. SuperSport is determined to showcase women both on and off the court next year.

“We are partnering with industry leaders and creating a branding presence profiling women involved in the World Cup,” she explained. “SuperSport already has several female production directors, producers and operational crew and we are excited to be leading this venture.”

This will be the first time that the Netball World Cup is hosted in Africa since the establishment of World Netball some 69 years ago and South Africa thus becomes the first country on the continent to do so.

SuperSport TV will work hand in hand with international sport agency Sport FIVE in ensuring that the 2023 Netball World Cup feed is distributed to other markets across the globe.

“Netball is an enormous sport played the length and breadth of our continent, so for Africa to host the 2023 World Cup is both gratifying and exciting. As broadcasters, we are delighted and aim to deliver a package that reflects the excellence and dynamism of the sport and its participants. We have major plans and intend to make history - and memories - with our offering,” said Marc Jury, SuperSport Chief Executive.
