The DP World Lions sealed a thumping 153-run win over the Momentum Multiply Titans when they bowled them all out for 156 in their second innings during the final session on the final day of their CSA 4-Day series clash at DP World Wanderers on Friday.

Corbin Bosch showed some fight after tea, hitting an unbeaten 44, but it wasn’t enough as it took less than 10 overs for the Lions to nip out the Titans final two wickets to secure an impressive win in a very back and forth game.

It was the Lions that won the toss and chose to bat, scoring 316 in their first innings, with Zubayr Hamza (84) and captain Dominc Hendricks the key contributors, and Bosch, 4/71, and Tsepo Ndwandwa, 3/73, the main wicket takers.

The Titans responded with 302 all out in their first innings, recovering from 56/4 at a stage thanks largely to Andile Phehlukwayo (88) and Bosch (59), while Lutho Sipamla, 4/83, and Tshepo Moreki, 3/36, picked up the lions share of wickets.

The Lions second innings got off to a disastrous start with them reduced to 4/4 early on, before a brilliant counter-attacking 116 from Bjorn Fortuin, and 68 from Hamza helped them to eventually declare on the final days morning on 295/9, setting the Titans 310 to win, which they were unable to do.

In the days final session after tea the Titans resumed on 128/8, and after Bosch pulled Sipamla for a six and knocked a single, Dayyaan Galiem edged the bowler to keeper Connor Esterhuizen to fall for a fourth ball duck leaving them on 135/9.

Last man Ndwanda (1) stuck around for 18 balls, in a 21-run last final wicket stand with Bosch, but eventually popped a catch to Khaya Fakuda at short leg off Fortuin to end the match.

Earlier in the day the Titans resumed their second innings on 36/3 after lunch, with Keegan Petersen (27) and Jhedli van Briesies initially looking solid as they extended their fourth wicket partnership to 54-runs, before Fortuin pinned Van Briesies in front LBW to reduced them to 70/4.

Rivaldo Moonsamy (19) dominated a 21-run stand with Petersen, with both then falling in successive balls, Moonsamy first caught behind by Esterhuizen off the bowling of Moreki, while Petersen also edged to Esterhuizen off the bowling of Codi Yusuf as they slipped to 91/6.

First innings hero’s Phehlukwayo (16) and Bosch then came together, but couldn’t replicate their century first innings partnership, as they could only combine for 33 this time before Phehlukwayo was caught by Hamza off Yusuf.

New batter Merrick Brett only lasted three balls before edging Yusuf to Hendricks at slip, with the score 128/8, leaving Bosch and Galiem at the crease to resume in the day’s final session.

In the morning session Delano Potgieter (40) and Tshepo Moreki (22no) resumed the Lions second innings on 239/8 and took their team past 250.

They extended their ninth wicket stand to 43 runs before Potgieter was caught by Brevis off the bowling of Brett, leaving them on 282/9.

Last man Sipamla (6no) and Moreki added another 13 to the score before Hendricks waved them in to declare their innings with a big lead of 309.

The Titans chase got off to a disastrous start as opener Joshua van Heerden, who struck a gritty half century in the first innings, was trapped LBW for a duck at the end of the second over by Potgieter.

Captain Neil Brand fell for an 11-ball duck, edging Yusuf to keeper Esterhuizen towards the end of the third over, leaving the Titans two wickets down with no runs on the board.

Brevis (6) was also out to the Yusuf-Esterhuizen combination in the seventh over, leaving the Titans in big trouble on 16/3, before Petersen and Van Briesies took them to lunch.
