History beckons in Kimberley on Saturday when Griquas and the Pumas contest the Carling Currie Cup final.

For the hosts, it will be 52 years since they last hoisted the famous trophy. For the Pumas, this will be a step into the unknown, never having come this close to tournament glory.

Recognising the status of the 120-year-old championship, SuperSport will be giving domestic rugby’s major showdown the traditional big treatment.

Saturday’s broadcast buildup will begin at 2pm ahead of the 3pm kickoff – live on SuperSport Rugby and SS Grandstand.

Former Griquas loose forward Jonathan Mokuena will be among the studio guests, together with Akona Ndungane, Butch James and Naas Botha, who will partake in the one-hour pre-show.

In all, the World of Champions will utilise 13 cameras, including one to reflect the ever-popular isiXhosa commentary crew (Kaya Malotana and Masomelele Jucwa) who bring special energy to every broadcast.

Other well-known voices adding gravitas to the broadcast will be Paul Stubbs, Warren Brosnihan, John van Rensburg and Vainon Willis.

SuperSport’s output will integrate social, digital and Blitz platforms, ensuring a multi-platform offering that reaches into every corner of South Africa.
