Potgieter to make debut for Cheetahs

Former Springbok Jacques Potgieter is one of five players to make their Carling Currie Cup debuts for the Toyota Cheetahs in their opening match against the Tafel Lager Griquas on Saturday.

Potgieter is part of an all-new loose trio that includes Jean Droste and Gideon van Wyk while the other debutants in the starting line-up are Evardi Boshoff and new signing Reynier Bernardo.

With Conraad van Vuuren on suspension and a host of players - including Junior Pokomela (wrist), Oupa Mohoje (calf), Andisa Ntsila (hamstring) and Malcolm Jaer (hamstring) injured, coach Hawies Fourie has also named a totally new bench, with every player a debutant.

The side will be captained by Ruan Pienaar.

 

TOYOTA CHEETAHS:  Clayton Blommetjies, Duncan Saal, Evardi Boshoff, Howard Mnisi, Tian Meyer, Reinhardt Fortuin, Ruan Pienaar (capt), Gideon van Wyk, Jacques Potgieter, Jean Droste, Rynier Bernardo, Victor Sekekete, Aranos Coetzee, Wilmar Arnoldi, Cameron Dawson.

Replacements:  Janus Venter, Aluluthu Tshakweni, Hencus van Wyk, Reinier Viljoen, Luan Potgieter, Mihlali Mosi, David Brits, Cohen Jasper.
