Malan and Kaplan put Boland in control
Pieter Malan and Gavin Kaplan steered Goldrush Boland to 229/2 at tea on day two of their CSA 4-Day Series match against the Hollywoodbets Dolphins at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead on Friday.
The Malan and Kaplan partnership carried on from where they left off before lunch as they added another 83 runs. The pair shared a 144-run second-wicket partnership. Boland had Gavin Kaplan (75*) and Aviwe Mgijima (3*) at the crease at the interval.
Malan added 43 runs to his pre-lunch tally and was dismissed for 83 off 196 balls. The 35-year-old faced 108 deliveries to reach his 56th first-class half-century. This is Malan's second score of more than 50 runs this season. Malan converted his only other half-ton to three figures when he scored 106 against the Dafabet Warriors at home.
His partner, Kaplan, outlasted him at the crease and carried on to tea. Like Malan, Kaplan also registered a half-ton. He faced 94 balls to reach his fourth first-class half-century. This is his second half-ton of the season and his third score of 50 or more runs. The 26-year-old already has a century to his name this season. He scored an impressive 166 against the Renault Potchefstroom North West Dragons in Boland's last match.
Bryce Parsons was the only wicket-taker for the Dolphins in the post-lunch session. The spinner took a single wicket for five runs in two overs. He joined Okuhle Cele, who took the only wicket of the morning session. At tea, Cele had one wicket for 65 runs in 12 overs.
