Kaizer Chiefs replaced Stellenbosch FC at the top of the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) as the league resumed following Christmas recess.

Chiefs were given an uncomfortable time as they went to the break in their match against TS Galaxy trailing 1-0. However, Amakhosi showed grit in the second half as they returned and scored four goals to collect maximum points with a 4-1 win at Dobsonville Stadium.

Naledi Hlongwane scored twice for Amakhosi, while Matala Makhubo and Kamogelo Malefo scored the other two goals to end TS Galaxy's impressive six-match unbeaten run (five wins and one draw).

The victory took Chiefs to the top spot on the log, above Stellenbosch, who were surprisingly thumped 4-0 by SuperSport United on Saturday.

Siviwe Magidigidi and Mandlenkosi Nkosi scored a brace each player to help SuperSport bring down the two times Diski Challenge Champions, Stellenbosch who dropped to position three on the log with 29 points.

In another match that was dubbed the clash of the weekend, Mamelodi Sundowns moved to the second spot on the log after defeating Orlando Pirates 2-1 on Sunday.

Onele Rulwana and Bennet Mokoena scored for Masandawana, while Pirates' goal was scored by Seth Green. With the win, Sundowns have now accumulated 29 points from 13 outings. They are level on points with third-placed Stellies who have played one match more than Downs.

Pirates on the flip side dropped from position seven to eighth place in the Diski Challenge table as they have 19 points from 13 games.

With the league almost at the halfway mark, it looks like we are in for another scintillating ending as all the top teams are separated by small margins. Sundowns coach David Notoane has already stated that they would love to go a step further this season and win the title.

Meanwhile, Stellies are looking at defending the title and becoming the first team to win it three times, SuperSport are also within the race and Chiefs as well are chasing their first-ever Diski Challenge League.
