Dutch cyclist Lorena Wiebes won the women's Gent-Wevelgem one-day classic for the second year running on Sunday, beating Italian rider Elisa Balsamo and her compatriot Charlotte Kool in a sprint at the end of the 169km race.

The win was also the 100th in the career of the sprinter from the SD Worx-Protime team, and her seventh of the 2025 season.

"I am very, very happy, you always want to win and every time it works out it's fantastic," said Wiebes.

Last Thursday, 26-year-old Wiebes won the Brugge-De Panne, four days after her success in Milan-San Remo.

As in the "Classicissima", Wiebes was ably assisted in the win by her Belgian teammate and world champion Lotte Kopecky.

"We knew we had to go for a bunch sprint, that was the plan. The other girls kept the pace high and Lotte did the leadout," added Wiebes.

"I can trust her completely, I just had to follow her. She was all the time with her head in the wind and did a fantastic leadout for me."
