In their only warm-up game before the tournament Chile were trashed 40-3 by Leinster at Donnybrook in Dublin.
Japan did not have the best run-in to the tournament having lost both their final two warm-up games. They lost 35-12 to Fiji and 42-21 to Italy.
This is the first appearance ever by Chile at a Rugby World Cup.
Japan are favourites to win this clash having had previous experiences at the tournament and causing upsets along the way. Their most famous World Cup win was against South Africa in 2015 when they shocked the Sprngboks by 34-32.
In the opening Pool D match played last night at the Orange Velodrome in Marseilles, England defeated Argentina 27-10, despite having Tom Curry sent off in the second minute.
