Veteran midfielder George Maluleka is to continue his career in the Motsepe Foundation Championship after signing on Wednesday for newly-promoted Kruger United.

The 35-year-old will bring extensive experience, having started almost 300 matches in his club career and winning five league titles with three different clubs.

Maluleka’s signature was confirmed after he was released by AmaZulu last season.

He had a heart scare in the campaign and spent most of the season being used as an impact player by coach Pablo Franco.

Maluleka made his debut at SuperSport United in the 2007-08 season, and was there for the next campaign as well, as SuperSport won the first two of three titles in a row.

He went on to play at Ajax Cape Town before going back to SuperSport in 2012. At Kaizer Chiefs, he was part of the squad that won the 2015 league title and again with Sundowns in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons.

He spent two seasons at the Brazilians before two more at AmaZulu.

He also won six caps for South Africa.

Kruger United were promoted after success in last season’s ABC Motsepe League playoffs.

They added other players with top-flight experience to their squad including ex-Cape Town Spurs goalkeeper Zama Dlamini, Ramasimong Maloisane (ex-Bloemfontein Celtic and Chippa United) and ex-Bafana international Lehlohonolo Nonyane.

They have begun the new campaign in the second tier of South African football with one win, one draw and a loss. They next meet Baroka away on Saturday.
