Paarl Royals win toss and bowl against JSK
David Miller, the captain of the Paarl Royals, won the toss and elected to field first in their Betway SA20 match against the Joburg Super Kings at Boland Park on Monday.
The Royals have played the Super Kings five times, won three, lost one and shared points in a washed out encounter. All of the Royals' wins have come while chasing. They batted first once and lost that tie. However, the Super Kings won their most recent encounter, where they thumped the David Miller-captained side by nine wickets.
The second-placed Royals are looking for their fourth win in five matches. Victory against the Super Kings will transplant them to the top of the table. Their victories have been built on the foundations built by Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Joe Root. The openers have been in outstanding form, carving up bowling attacks with abandon. Pretorius and Root have registered four half-centuries between them, with two each under their belt.
Rubin Hermann was given a start in the Royals' previous encounter and amassed a brisk 56 off 33 runs that set them up for victory against the Pretoria Capitals. He is the only other Royals player to reach the milestone this season. The 27-year-old was making his debut both for the Royals and in the Betway SA20.
The Super Kings are on the hunt for their third victory in five outings. They began their campaign with back-to-back victories over MI Cape Town and the Durban Super Giants. They shared points with the Capitals after their encounter was washed out by persistent rain at the DP World Wanderers. The Super Kings then lost to table-toppers MI Cape Town. They will be looking to arrest the slide with a victory over the Royals.
The Gauteng side suffered a setback when Gerald Coetzee was ruled out for the rest of the season due to injury. Another concern for Stephen Fleming will be the lack of big scores from their top and middle order. Faf du Plessis, who notched up a 38-ball 61 in their loss to MI Cape Town, is the only Super Kings batter to reach and pass the 50-run mark. This is something that the Johannesburg side will be looking to rectify.
