Madrid derby suspended after Atletico fans throw objects

Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid's LaLiga derby clash on Sunday was temporarily suspended after Rojiblancos fans threw objects, including lighters, at players.

The match, at Atletico's Metropolitano stadium, was disrupted by home supporters with Real Madrid leading 1-0, through Eder Militao's second-half goal.

Atletico coach Diego Simeone and players Koke and Jose Gimenez approached the stand behind Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois' net to remonstrate with their own fans.

Players from both sides were sent in to the dressing rooms by the referee to await further instruction, with little over 20 minutes of the match remaining.

With a victory, Spanish champions Madrid would cut LaLiga leaders Barcelona's advantage down to one point.
