AmaZulu Football Club has announced the signing of two seasoned players, versatile defender Sandile Mthethwa (27) and experienced midfielder Bongani Zungu (32), ahead of the second round of the Betway Premiership campaign.

Both players join Usuthu on permanent contracts as free agents following successful medicals.

The new signings were warmly introduced by club president Sandile Zungu during the AmaZulu Fan Experience on Tuesday afternoon.

MTHETHWA'S COMMITMENT TO AMAZULU

Hailing from Empangeni in northern KwaZulu-Natal, Mthethwa arrives after his tenure with Orlando Pirates. The defender expressed immense pride in joining AmaZulu and vowed to make a lasting impact.

“I will do everything in my power to leave a legacy at AmaZulu, uplift my family name, and help the club return to the top four,” Mthethwa told AmaZulufc.net.

He also conveyed gratitude for the club’s persistence in signing him.

“I’m thankful to AmaZulu for believing in me. I understand there were previous attempts to bring me here, and now that I’m part of this great team, I’ll show my appreciation through hard work on the pitch.

“This club is close to my heart—it’s just two hours away from my hometown, Empangeni—so I already feel at home. The journey ahead won’t be easy, but I promise to give my all for this badge.”

ZUNGU BRINGS EXPERIENCE AND AMBITION

Bongani Zungu, a highly decorated midfielder with a career spanning Mamelodi Sundowns and various overseas stints, adds invaluable experience to the squad. Zungu is eager to contribute under the guidance of co-coaches Arthur Zwane and Vusumuzi Vilakazi.

“My goal is to help the team climb the league table, mentor the younger players, and share my experience with the squad,” Zungu said.

The Duduza-born midfielder also outlined his ambition to secure silverware with AmaZulu.

“Winning trophies has been a consistent part of my career, and I want to bring that same winning mentality here. I know what it takes to succeed, and I’m ready to give my best.

“I’m excited to work under Arthur Zwane and Vusi Vilakazi. The team plays modern, attractive football, and I believe my understanding of the game will complement their style. But I also know I must work hard to earn my place in the team.”

With these signings, AmaZulu aims to strengthen their squad for the challenges ahead and push for a strong finish in the league.
