Cape Town City have continued their buying spree and added left back Ntsikelelo Ngqonga to their squad, confirming his arrival just days before their MTN8 semifinal clash with Orlando Pirates. The utility player, who turned 22 last week, joins after being out of contract following the sale of Moroka Swallows to Marumo Gallants at the end of last season.

He had made his Swallows debut in March and started eight games last season, doing enough to impress to City to sign him as they look for cover in the left back position.

Tshegofatso Nyama is expected to be the first choice for the club at left back this season, now that he has recovered from a serious knee injury, but with veteran Marc van Heerden retiring, Ngqonga comes in as cover.

He can also play in midfield, adding to his usefulness to coach Eric Tinkler, who has been enthusiastic in his comments about the new-look City and their potential for the coming Betway Premiership season.

Ngqonga has been training with the squad for several weeks, but City only made his arrival official on Friday.

He is the 10th new City signing, with the club having already unveiled Kamohelo Mokotjo from Sekhukhune United, Angolan midfielder Carlinhos from Petro Atletico in Lunada, Haashem Domingo from Raja Casablanca in Morocco, Kayden Francis from Chippa United, Fortune Makaringe from Orlando Pirates, Namibian international Prince Tjiueza, goalkeeper Elson Sithole from Magesi, defender Sibusiso Ziba from JDR Stars, French-born striker Amadou Soukouna and youngster Lefa Aphane from Tzaneen United.
