Betway Premiership new boys Magesi picked up a fifth point of the season as they held Cape Town City to a goalless draw away from home on Sunday, to the delight of coach Clinton Larsen.

It a successful start of a tough seven-day period for the rookies, who host Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday and then have their Carling Knockout quarterfinal tie away at TS Galaxy next Sunday.

Magesi had caused a major upset by beating Orlando Pirates away last weekend in the cup and then shocked City too, by taking a point at a rainy Athlone Stadium on Sunday.

“We anticipated very difficult game against a quality team and I warned my players before arriving here that it's never easy to leave here with a point, yet alone three, but I also knew that our defensive shape has been improving game by game,” explained Larsen.

“It's something that we're going to have to survive on this season, without the quality other teams do have.

“Our organisation and fighting spirit is going to have to carry us through a lot of games. And I think that was clear to see today. The boys really, really stuck to their task. We prevented them from penetrating through the middle with (Hasheem) Domingo.

"We were also prepared to defend the crosses, and I thought the (defensive) shape was excellent throughout the game. We really forced them to hit long range shots from outside the box for most of the game.”

Larsen felt his side could well have snuck a win having chances like they did when they caught Pirates on the hop in their 3-2 triumph at the Orlando Stadium earlier this month.

“I thought there were moments as well where we could have been a little bit more clinical on the breaks, like we were against Orlando Pirates, but we weren't. But in saying so, I’m very, very happy with the effort.

"That is our fifth point in five games, and we've got 25 more points to fight for to reach our target as a club, and then we'll take it from there.”
