SuperSport head to Cairo with little preparation
SuperSport United have had little preparation for Sunday’s African Confederation Cup tie in Egypt, coach Gavin Hunt admitted because he was away on a coaching course.
The Pretoria club play their opening match in Group A against Modern Future in Cairo on Sunday but with their coach away for the last fortnight while working towards his Confederation of African Football A license, preparations have been stalled.

“We’re just trying to get the squad to balance because Wednesday we play again, there's no time to do any work, then on Tuesday it will just be recovery, which is what it's all about. Obviously, our squad size is a problem. I mean, it's a huge problem. So we must be very careful what type of team we put on this weekend.”
SuperSport will return immediately from Cairo to play their derby against champions Mamelodi Sundowns at Atteridgeville in midweek and then next Sunday host holders USM Alger in their next group game in the Confederation Cup.
“I can't even think about next Sunday. We’ll try to put together a team but it’s obviously going to be a very strange team because we have to manage this group. I’m just thinking these kids have to step up now. And it will be a great platform for them in Confederation Cup,” Hunt added.
As to the Egyptian opponents they would be facing, Hunt said they had studied their “basic structure and look at the structure of team composition”.
“We have a few ideas. On the football side, you know, obviously, it's a much slower game of football in north Africa. So we're going to have to adapt.
“We're going to be a team put together at the last minute, we haven't really worked with it. But this is what you play for,” he said.
