Hawassa beat Wolaitta as Wolkite and Adama share spoils
Hawassa City beat Wolaitta Dicha 2-1 in the Ethiopia Premier League on Tuesday, while Wolkite played out a goalless draw with Adama City.
Fans were treated to two tight games at the Adama Science and Technology University Stadium, with Hawassa City the only team to taste victory.
Hawassa have been running on fumes for several weeks, so this was a welcome result for them.
Tebarek Hefemo gave them a 1-0 lead three minutes into the game, much to the surprise of Wolaitta Dicha who started the game like a house on fire.
Hawassa made it 2-0 after 26 minutes with a close-range finish by Eyob Alemayehu.
Hawassa had a strong start in the second half, but Wolaitta soon upped the ante.
They duly pulled a goal back in the 71st minute when Yonatan Elias scored, but in the end it proved to little too late as Hawassa claimed the spoils
Hawassa City move up to 11th on the log, their highest position over six weeks.
Wolkite City, meanwhile, remain in troubled waters in 14th place and their opponents, Adama, remain in ninth spot.
