Botswana’s Young Zebras starlet Philip Kaku has left for Belgium to attend two-week trials with RWD Molenbeek, a second-tier Chancellor Pro League team.

Kaku’s club, Township Rollers FC, confirmed via a statement that the 17-year-old midfielder jetted to Brussels on Thursday for the trials.

“Our teen sensation has left for Belgium for trials with RWD Molenbeek. He'll be with the Belgian club from Friday, January 10 until January 25th,” the statement reads.

Former Township Rollers coach Mogotsi Mpote spoke highly of the talented player, saying he has the potential to become a top player.

“Kaku is a good player; very young and energetic. He is a good reader of the game, a leader, and a competitive player,” Mpote told SuperSport.com

In a separate interview, Botswana’s top sports journalist, Kagiso Kgaogano, seemed to agree with Mpote’s observation on Kaku.

“The boy is very talented [but] the problem is that he has not played much in the local league as teams rely much on experience rather than nurturing talent,” Kgaogano, who works for Killerpass Botswana, said.

Kaku was a member of the Botswana under-20 team which participated in the Cosafa Youth Championship held in Mozambique last September.

He hopes to impress Molenbeek, also home to African players such as Angolan Marsoni Sambu and Burundian goalkeeper Mateo Nkurunziza.

Molenbeek is based in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, Brussels and currently sit third in the standings, nine points behind leaders Zulte Waregem.
