American Stearns wins maiden WTA title

American Peyton Stearns clinched her first WTA title with a victory over Egypt's Mayar Sherif in the final of the clay-court event in Rabat on Saturday.

The world number 81 saved all four of the break points she faced in a dominant 6-2, 6-1 victory at the French Open warm-up tournament.

Sherif was playing in her first Tour-level final since winning her only WTA title in October 2022.

Stearns will face Croatian qualifier Lucija Ciric Bagaric in the first round at Roland Garros, which gets under way on Sunday.
