Sean Brady has brought himself into sharper focus in the UFC welterweight title picture after a unanimous decision win over Gilbert Burns at a UFC Fight Night, held at the APEX Facility in Las Vegas on Saturday

In a match which saw the fighter primarily on their feet and in the clinch, Brady’s ability to create more pressure and forward momentum secured him an emphatic 50-45 50-45 49-46 score from the judges.

“Gilbert is tough,” said Brady after the fight. “I feel like I did better work on the feet than I did on the ground.

"He was tough to get down. I tried to get him against the cage but he was strong. I got him shelled up in the middle like my coaches told me to.

“I stuck to the game plan and now I should be ranked way ahead of [Ian Machado Garry] or whatever your name is.

“I want someone in the top five.”

In the rest of the main card, Natalia Silva outpointed Jessica Andrade in a women’s flyweight fight for a unanimous decision triumph; Steve Garcia made quick work of Kyle Nelson in a catchweight (148.5 lbs) match; Cody Durden submitted Matt Schnell in the flyweight division; and Yanal Ashmouz secured a unanimous decision win over Trevor Peek in the lightweight opener.

Next week brings UFC 306 – also known as UFC Noche – on the morning of Sunday 15 September 2024, headlined by a bantamweight championship match between Sean O’Malley and Merab Dvalishvili.
