Moroka Swallows showed fighting spirit as they defeated Chippa United 2-1 in the DStv Premiership at the Buffalo City Municipality Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Despite scoring early, the Chilli Boys could not hold onto their lead and lost out on the points.

Chippa opened the scoring in the 17th minute through Kayden Francis, and it looked as though they were in the driving seat to control the match.

The first half was highly contested as both teams tried to break each other down and Swallows went into the break behind.

The second half saw an impressive comeback effort from Swallows, inspired by Gabadinho Mhango.

After constant probing and keeping more of the possession, the Dube Birds found their breakthrough when Mhango levelled matters in the 71st minute.

Following the pullback, the Chilli Boys did their best to defend but could not hold their opponents back from finding the winning goal.

Swallows also managed to adjust quickly to their halftime substitutions.

In the 93rd minute during stoppage time, Lwanda Mbanjwa made sure that the away team grabbed the lead and it was too late for Chippa to recover as the whistle was blown a minute later.

Following the match, Mhango was named the DStv Premiership Man of the Match and thanked his teammates for their hard work in ensuring they won the game.

The win gives Swallows some more breathing room in avoiding relegation from the DStv Premiership.

As for Chippa, the team will now turn their attention to the Nedbank Cup where they will be facing an in-form Orlando Pirates.
