Sunderland moved to the top of the Championship with a 1-0 win against promotion contenders Burnley on Saturday.

Romaine Mundle's superb 26th-minute finish made it three successive victories for new Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris.

Looking to bounce back from last season's relegation, Burnley's 100 per cent record in the second tier this term came to an end in front of more than 40 000 fans at the Stadium of Light.

Watford are level on points with Sunderland after their 2-1 win against Derby at Vicarage Road.

Ebou Adams put Derby ahead early on, but Vakoun Bayo levelled and Moussa Sissoko's 76th-minute strike made it three wins from three games for the Hornets.

Blackburn are third after fighting back for a 2-1 win against promoted Oxford.

Mark Harris' sensational volley gave Oxford a 44th-minute lead, but Joe Rankin-Costello responded immediately and Arnor Sigurdsson's 83rd-minute goal secured the points for Rovers.

West Bromwich Albion continued their unbeaten league start by winning 2-1 at Stoke.

Karlan Grant and Josh Maja were on target either side of Liverpool loanee Lewis Koumas' first goal for the Potters.

Norwich and Sheffield United shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at Carrow Road, Oli Arblaster's strike cancelling out Josh Sargent's opener with both goals coming in the first half.

New Preston boss Paul Heckingbottom made a winning start as Luton were beaten 1-0 at Deepdale.

Will Keane's 39th-minute effort ended Preston's seven-game goal drought in the league.

Tommy Conway's 90th-minute penalty on his home debut saved Middlesbrough in a 2-2 draw against newly-promoted Portsmouth.

Wayne Rooney's Plymouth side drew 1-1 at QPR despite being reduced to nine men.

Michael Frey's header gave QPR a third-minute lead before Morgan Whittaker equalised with a stunning 25-yard effort.

Plymouth had Adam Forshaw sent off for a second yellow card after 29 minutes and substitute Freddie Issaka was shown a straight red in second-half stoppage-time

Bristol City and Coventry drew 1-1 at Ashton Gate, while Hull and Millwall are still waiting for their first league wins this term after a 0-0 draw at the MKM Stadium.
