Day 1 wrap: Swanepoel put Knights in control, Warriors on top, Erwee stands tall

SWANEPOEL, KLEINVELDT HEROICS PUTS KNIGHTS IN CONTROL

The ITEC Knights trail by 113 runs and sit on 91 for three at stumps on day one of the CSA 4-Day Franchise Series against the GbetsRocks at Boland Park in Paarl on Sunday.

After bowling the Rocks out for 212, the Rocks struck early as Ferisco Adams got Patrick Kruger caught on the leg side for 12.

A 60-run stand from Raynard Van Tonder and Matthew Kleinveldt steadied the Knights before Van Tonder was trapped lbw for 29 by Shaun Von Berg.

Pite van Biljon fell shortly after stumps as he was caught off the bowling of Imran Manack.

Kleinveldt remains unbeaten on 50 alongside Migael Pretorius (1*), with the Knights trailing by 113 runs.

Earlier on in the day, Aubrey Swanepoel took five wickets as he dominated for the Knights. Swanepoel bowled opener Stiaan van Zyl, who dealt in boundaries as he was eventually dismissed for 14 off 25 balls.

Clyde Fortuin got a fine edge behind to the keeper for two off the bowling of Nhlakanipho Mpungose.

Janneman Malan didn't last long as he was bowled for two by Monde Maqunqu.

His brother and opener Pieter Malan stood tall but fell at the stroke of lunch as he was bowled out by Patrick Kruger for 39 off 95 balls.

Michael Copeland brought up his maiden first-class half-century as he scored 55 off 91 balls (hitting eight fours) before he was bowled out by Migael Pretorius.

Ferisco Adams then swept and got a top edge and was caught by Kruger at first slip as he departed for 26 off 43 balls.

Hlomla Hanabe tried to drive but was bowled for eight by Swanepoel, and shortly thereafter Swanepoel caught and bowled Hardus Viljoen for 18.

Swanepoel ended with a 5-67 as the Gbets Rocks were bundled out for 212.

FIFTIES PUT WARRIORS IN CONTROL ON DAY ONE

Three half-centuries saw the Dafabet Warriors on 351 for nine at stumps on day one of their CSA 4-Day Franchise Series against the Six Gun Grill Western Province at Newlands.

After deciding to bat first, the Warriors didn't get off to the perfect start with the loss of opener Wihan Lubbe in the opening over.

Fast bowler Dane Paterson got Lubbe to edge behind for a duck but a century stand held the Warriors in the game.

Rosier and Jordan Hermann put on a 112-run second-wicket stand as the duo frustrated the home side.

Rosier hit his 19th half-century as he scored 59 off 92 balls (hitting nine fours) before he pulled Mihlali Mpongwana and was caught in the deep.

A 61-run stand between Hermann and Matthew Breetzke formed as Hermann brought up his seventh first-class half-century.

Hermann top-scored with 81 off 117 balls (hitting 12 fours and a six) before he was trapped lbw by George Linde.

An 84-run stand formed between Breetzke and Rudi Second before Breetzke edged Linde to first slip for a well-played 52 off 115 balls (hitting four fours).

Second fell short of a half-century as he was caught at short cover on 48 off the bowling of Kyle Simmonds.

However, a collapse soon occurred with the Warriors, who were once sitting on smartly 267 for four, falling to 351 for nine. Dane Paterson and George Linde have three wickets apiece

ERWEE STANDS TALL BEFORE RAIN INTERUPTION

Sarel Erwee's unbeaten half-century sees the Hollywoodbets Dolphins on 181 for two at stumps before weather interrupted the final session against the DP World Lions on day one of their 4-Day Franchise Series encounter at JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom

After being sent to bat first, the Hollywoodbets Dolphins got off to a poor start, losing opener Tshepang Dithole.

Dithole was trapped lbw for three by Codi Yusuf.

However, an unbeaten 99-run stand by Erwee and Petersen helped steady the Dolphins' ship after the early loss.

Petersen played a knock of 58 off 109 balls (hitting seven fours) before he was caught at first slip off the bowling of Malusi Siboto.

However, the final session of play was interrupted by rain and it sees Erwee remaining unbeaten on 75 and Marques Ackerman settled in on 40 not out.

GQAMANE MAGIC RESTRICTS DRAGONS AS BAD LIGHT ENDS PLAY ON DAY 1

The Titans sit on 18 for one as they trail the North West Dragons by 130 runs at the close of play on day one of the CSA 4-Day Franchise Series encounter against the Momentum Multiply Titans in Pretoria on Sunday.

After bowling the Dragons out for 148, the Titans lost Modiri Litheko early as he was caught off the bowling of Renaldo Meyer for a duck.

Neil Brand (14*) and Jiveshan Pillay (4*) remain unbeaten as the Titans trail by 130 runs before bad light brought an end to the day's play.

Earlier on, Junior Dala got Grant Mokoena to slap it straight to midwicket for four.

Ayabulela Gqamane took two wickets as Lesego Senokwane was trapped LBW for 14 and Shaylin Pillay got struck on the knee for 18.

Debutant Merrick Brett got Christopher Britz for a fine edge behind for a one.

Resuming 60-4 after lunch, Senuran Muthusamy became Gqamane's (3/40) third scalp as he departed for 13 and Khanya Cotani fell in the following over Dala for a duck.

JP King top-scored with 38 before he was bowled by Titans' second debutant Mathew Boast.

Duan Jansen made 37 off 53 balls before he was caught off the bowling of Neil Brand. The Titans then wrapped up the tail as they were bundled out for 148 in 56.2 overs.
