KLEINVELDT HITS 199 AS KNIGHTS TAKE COMMAND IN PAARL

Matthew Kleinveldt carried his bat for the ITEC Knights as they extended their lead after being bundled out for 493 at stumps on day two of the CSA 4-Day Franchise Series against the GbetsRocks at Boland Park in Paarl on Monday.

An 80-run stand between Kleinveldt and Migael Pretorius saw the Knights close the gap of the deficit as the Rocks struggled to get a breakthrough.

Pretorius brought up his sixth first-class half-century as he scored a superb 56 off 60 balls (hitting nine fours and a six) before spinner Michael Copeland struck.

After hitting Copeland for a boundary, Pretorius tried to go big again but was caught at the deep for the only wicket lost in the morning session.

Kleinveldt brought up his 15th first-class century and currently shares a 214-run stand with Gihahn Cloete.

Cloete made a valiant 122 off 158 balls (hitting 15 fours) before he was caught off the bowling of Copeland.

Spinner Shaun Von Berg then tore through the Knights lower order as he took five for 101 in his 29 overs.

However, it was opener Kleinveldt who went on to carry his bat in the first innings, falling short of a double century but ending on a career-best 199 off 389 balls (hitting 18 fours).

The Rocks were bundled out for 212 thanks to a five-wicket haul by Aubrey Swanepoel.

Copeland top-scored with 55 off 91 balls (hitting eight fours) before Pretorius bowled him out.

Swanepoel ended with a five for 67 as the Gbets Rocks were bundled out for 212.
