Donovan Ferreira and Dean Elgar's record-breaking stand steered the Momentum Multiply Titans to a six-wicket victory in their One-Day Cup encounter against the Hollywoodbets Dolphins at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead on Wednesday.

Chasing a modest 171 to win in a cloudy Durban, Ferreira and Elgar recorded the highest fifth-wicket partnership in One-Day Cup history as the Titans marched to their second tournament win.

However, the Titans got off to the worst possible start as Dolphins skipper Eathan Bosch struck immediately, with Dewald Brevis edging behind after just three deliveries in the run chase.

Bosch continued to swing the ball and got Rivaldo Moonsamy to edge to Khaya Zondo at slip for two.

And after four boundaries from Neil Brand, Bosch grabbed his third by trapping LBW Brand for 22 off 35 balls.

Ottniel Baartman changed ends and struck in his second over as Titans skipper Sibonelo Makhanya attempted to play a straight drive but was bowled out for a duck.

Reeling at 41-4, the Titans needed some stability and found it in the form of Elgar and Ferreira, who went onto record the highest partnership at Kingsmead.

The duo showed class and continued to punish the Dolphins bowling attack as they went on to share an unbeaten 232-run partnership.

Ferreira, who made his Proteas T20 debut last month, brought up his maiden List A century off just 88 balls.

Ferreira was sublime as he went on to hit 12 fours and seven sixes in his 138 not out off 106 deliveries.

Elgar continued his fine form to bring up his second List-A century this season, finishing on 100 in 106 deliveries (hitting nine fours).

The duo gave the hosts no glimmer of hope as the Titans cruised to the 271 target with 30 balls to spare and get their One-Day Cup campaign back on track.

Bosch was the pick of the Dolphins bowlers, ending on figures of 3-56.

FIFTY FOR BIRTHDAY BOY SMITH

Earlier on, allrounder Jason Smith made a gritty and special half-century as the Dolphins posted 270-8 in their allotted 50 overs.

After winning the toss and deciding to bat first at a cloudy Kingsmead, the hosts got off to the worst possible start, losing opener Sarel Erwee, who popped Dayyaan Galiem high in the air for four.

Fast bowler Junior Dala obliterated Jon-Jon Smuts's wickets to send him back early for 15.

The following over, Grant Roelofsen edged behind, and the Dolphins were in trouble at 32-3.

Smith and Zondo then formed a 69-run partnership to help stabilise proceedings in Durban.

Zondo made a valiant 32 off 57 balls (hitting four fours) before he was caught at extra cover off Aaron Phangiso.

Smith, celebrating his 29th birthday on Wednesday, brought up his 10th List A half-century with a six off just 67 balls.

Ferreira got the vital wicket of Smith, who stayed back in his crease and attempted to cut but was caught behind and departed for a well-played 75 off 82 balls (hitting five fours and three sixes).

Tshepang Dithole made a handy 36 off 33 balls (hitting a four and three sixes) before he tried to smash Ferreira but instead got an edge behind to the keeper, Rivaldo Moonsamy.

Andile Simelane also contributed a vital 41 off 32 balls before he was caught in the deep in the final over off Dala.
