Dutch star Vos to miss cyclo-cross worlds
Dutch cycling star Marianne Vos, an eight-time cyclo-cross world champion, has been ruled out injured for the world championships in the discipline starting on Saturday in France.
The 37-year-old Visma-Lease a Bike team rider has not sufficiently recovered from a calf injury picked up during the World Cup event in Maasmechelen, Belgium last weekend.
"As an eight-time world champion, we would have liked to see Marianne try to win another title, even though we knew it would be difficult after her fall. We wish Marianne a speedy recovery," the Dutch Cycling Federation (KNWU) said on Tuesday.
Vos has the best track record in women's cycling with two Olympic titles, in the road race in London 2012 and the points race in Beijing 2008, and three road race world titles.
The Dutch team remain favourites for gold in Lievin in northern France, led by defending world champion Fem van Empel.
