Spurred on by encouraging results, Cape Town City FC coach Ian Taylor feels they can come out victorious from any challenge at the moment.

The Citizens are leading the DStv Diski Challenge standings with a 100 per cent winning record.

They started the campaign by beating fellow Capetonians Stellenbosch FC, which was followed by another impressive 2-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs.

Last weekend, they continued with their sterling performances when they downed Orlando Pirates 2-0.

Taylor said beating the three teams that are regarded as the strong opponents in the Diski Challenge does not mean much to them as each game comes with different challenges.

Taylor explained: “You can’t read too into the opposition that we have defeated so far because every game is difficult. The teams are unpredictable.

“It is nice to get the three wins, it is the result of the hard work and the effort the guys have been putting in. The confidence is high, they believe in each other and they believe they can win every week.

Despite winning, Taylor is still focusing on the main goal: “For us it is about developing the individual within the team but also developing the team at the same time, getting players into the first team. That is our goal.”

This weekend The Citizens travel to Durban where they will face Maritzburg United at Harry Gwala Stadium on Sunday.

Kick-off is set for 10am CAT (SA, GMT+2).

Heading into this clash Taylor said there are a few aspects they will be looking to improve on as their mission of collecting another three points continues.

“We still need to be better in position when we are in the opposition half. We need to control the game for longer periods. Our target now is three points in another match. We are just focusing on ourselves, not on other teams,” said the former Cape town Spurs Diski Challenge coach.

City’s home boys, Stellenbosch FC are travelling to Gqeberha to face Chippa United at Wolfson Stadium, KwaZakhele, on Saturday.
