Kaizer Chiefs were made to pay for their wastefulness after Chippa United took full advantage to emerge 2-0 victors at the Buffalo City Stadium on Saturday, April 6.

Cavin Johnson's side carved out numerous opportunities in East London, but Darren Johnson had real saves to make as the Chilli Boys recorded their second win on the spin to provisionally move up to 10 place, one point behind Amakhosi (8th).

Chippa were looking to build on their 2-0 win over Cape Town Spurs in midweek following back-to-back defeats against Mamelodi Sundowns and Polokwane City, while the Glamour Boys sought to snap a three-game winless run after losing 1-0 to Stellenbosch most recently.

A frenetic start to the match saw the visitors create three early chances, with Edmilson Dove missing the target on two minutes after the opposition defence failed to clear their lines from a corner before the Mozambican defender blazed over the crossbar in the fourth minute.

Ranga Chivaviro then fired wide of goal eight minutes later as Chiefs pushed for the opener, but the Chilli Boys survived the early onslaught and broke the deadlock against the run of play on 21 minutes when Bienvenu Eva Nga beat Bruce Bvuma after being picked out by Justice Chabalala.

Eva Nga squandered an opportunity to double the hosts' lead 10 minutes later with a wayward strike, although Sinoxolo Kwayiba spared his teammate's blushes soon afterwards as he tucked the ball past Bvuma to make it 2-0.

The Soweto giants looked to reply as Dillon Solomons lined up a shot that sailed wide of the target on 39 minutes before Chivaviro again failed to test Johnson, who watched his effort clear the bar.

Chivaviro was presented with another chance early in the second half, but his shot lacked accuracy once more. However, Johnson was finally called into action on 64 minutes as he pulled off a fine save to deny Christian Saile and he was also required to keep out an effort from substitute Siyethemba Sithebe eight minutes later.

Chippa were happy to sit on their two-goal lead and Wandile Duba almost made an immediate impact off the bench when he threatened to halve the deficit with a strike that flew over the target on 82 minutes.

Try as they might, the goal just wouldn't come and Chiefs slumped to their third defeat in four games, leaving Johnson with some difficult questions to answer in the coming week.

With the Nedbank Cup returning next weekend, the Chilli Boys travel to SuperSport United when the league resumes on April 20, with the Glamour Boys away to Richards Bay.
