AmaZulu FC emerged as 1-0 winners over Cape Town City in a DStv Premiership match at the DHL Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The win left Usuthu placed 12th in the league standings - two points behind eighth-placed Kaizer Chiefs. Coach Pablo Franco Martin's side will now host Orlando Pirates in a Nedbank Cup quarterfinal match on 13 April.

The Citizens, on the other hand, are placed seventh in the standings - two points behind fourth-placed Sekhukhune United. Coach Eric Tinkler's side will be targeting a win when they face Polokwane City away in a league clash on 21 April.

The Citizens got off to a promising start and they threatened first through Taahir Goedeman. The 24-year-old attacker's attempt was well-saved by Usuthu's experienced goalkeeper Veli Mothwa just two minutes into the encounter.

The visitors looked dangerous on the counter which saw Keanu Cupido being sent off in the 26th minute after denying AmaZulu a clear goalscoring opportunity and City were reduced to 10 players. However, the Citizens contained Usuthu and the score was 0-0 at halftime.

The hosts did not sit back after the restart despite being numerically disadvantaged. Jaedin Rhodes looked to make an impact having been introduced at halftime and he set up Heaven Sereetsi whose effort was well-saved by Mothwa.

However, it was the visitors' substitute who made an impact as Junior Sede Dion netted in the 71st minute to hand AmaZulu the lead - three minutes after being introduced. The goal sealed AmaZulu's 1-0 victory over City on the day.
