Lamontville Golden Arrows coach Steve Komphela said his side were forced to rush their game by opponents Cape Town City but saw Sunday’s 1-1 away draw in the DStv Premiership as a point gained.

Nduduzo Sibiya equalised early in the second half after Darwin Gonzalez had handed the home side the halftime lead at the Cape Town Stadium.

“I think both teams could have played a better game. I thought Cape Town City rushed us, they really forced us to play fast. And we succumbed to that. We could have maybe spent a bit more time on the ball because every time we got more on the ball, it looked like something was going to happen,” said Komphela, whose side moved up one place to 10th spot in the DStv Premiership standings.

They are now only one point off a top-eight place but found City hard to contain.

“Their structure is extremely offensive. If you were to ask me there was only one defender on the field for them and that was (Lorenzo) Gordinho. Apart from him, everybody else is offensive. So their game didn’t allow us to be more on the ball,” added the Arrows coach.

“In the first half, we were second to the actions and second on the ball. We lacked aggression, but second half was much better. We needed to win our one-on-one duels, which I thought in the second half got better. But in terms of the result, for us, it’s a point gained. We don't want to be greedy, we don't want to be selfish, could have been nice to have three points.

“The manner in which we considered the goal was uncalled for, it's naive. It was a bit of a scrappy match, and difficult at some point as it got top physical,” Komphela added of the cross that Gonzalez headed home at the back post.

Arrows remain in the Cape for their next match on Wednesday away against second placed Stellenbosch.
