St George battle Mekelakeya as Shashemene host Bahir Dar
St George will attempt to escape the clutches of defeat when they face second-placed Mekelakeya in a BetKing Ethiopia Premier League clash on Thursday.
Shashemene City, meanwhile, face an uphill task when they come up against Bahir Dar City in the day's other clash.
Both matches will be played at the Adama Science and Technology University Stadium.
Shashemene City, who are second last on the log, haven't won a single match this season and have two draws and six losses so far to their name.
They are the second worst defensive team in the league as they have conceded 12 goals and ironically, their opponents, Bahir Dar City are the second-best attacking side in the league, scoring 15 goals.
The "Tana Waves" have managed to remain undefeated after they lost their opener against Ethiopia Insurance.
Bahir Dar are third on the log with 17 points, three points behind league leaders Ethiopia Nigd Bank.
The other match of the day pits the two oldest teams of the league, St George and Mekelakeya, against each other.
St George come into the game still reeling from the painful defeat last week by eternal rivals, Ethiopia Coffee in the Sheger Derby.
The Horsemen are fourth with 16 points as they failed to equal the Defence Force with that defeat to Coffee.
Mekelakeya lie second with 19 points knowing a win against mighty St George will shoot them up the table above Ethiopia Nigd Bank, who only lead by one point.
Mekelakeya are just one of two teams who have lost only once this season.
This is the 34th meeting between the two sides, with St George winning 12 and Mekelakeya just three. They have the shared the spoils on 19 occasions.
