Mekelakeya beat Fasil, Dire Dawa puncture St George

Mekelakeya kept pace with Ethiopia Premier League leaders Ethiopia Nigd Bank by beating Fasil Kenema 1-0 on Friday, while Dire Dawa City dimmed St George's already flickering lights with a 1-0 win.

The keenly contested tie between Mekelakeya and Fasil ended goalless in the first half and remained deadlocked for all of 85 minutes.

Abdou Moutalabou's 85th-minute strike proved decisive in the end for Mekelakeya.

The victory takes them to within three points of Ethiopia Nigd Bank.

It means the race could potentially go down to the wire on the last weekend.

The title can only be won by either Ethiopia Nigd Bank or Mekelakeya as it stands with three more matches to play.

Dire Dawa's win over St George means the Horsemen have only managed one win in their last eight games and it is little wonder they fizzled out of the title race.

Temesgen Derese's 48-minute goal ensured victory for Dire Dawa City.

Dire Dawa City move up to eight spot on 40 points with St George dropping to fifth with 43 points.
