Shashemene City promoted to Ethiopia Premier League

Shashemene City have won the Higher League, Ethiopia's second tier league, to earn promotion to the BetKing Ethiopia Premier League.

They will play in the BetKing Ethiopia Premier League next season along with Commercial Bank who have also been promoted.

The final game of the Ethiopian Higher League Group B was held on Friday between Shashemene and Jinka.

Shashemene City won the game 2-0 to end the 2022/23 Higher League Group B competition with victory.

Another promotion will be decided in the tie on Saturday between Yeka Sub City and Hambericho Durame.

The other tie will be between Damot City and Gelan City.

The Higher League is divided into three streams, A, B and C, and there are 14 teams in each category.

However, there are 13 teams in Group C alone, and only one from each Group will qualify for the Premier League.

It will be recalled that last season, Arbaminch City, Ethio Electric and Legetafo Legedadi were promoted to the BetKing Ethiopia Premier League.

All three these teams are presently involved in relegation battles and look like they are destined for a return to the Ethiopia Higher League.
