Mekelakeya draw with St George, Bahir Dar beat Shashemene
Mekelakeya and St George played to a goalless draw in their top-of-the-table clash as Bahir Dar beat Shashemene City 1-0.
It was a missed opportunity for both sides who could have been top with a win but had to settle for shared points.
Ethiopia Nigd Bank, otherwise known as CBE - Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, are still top of the table with 40 points.
Mekelakeya are in second place, also on 40 points, and St George are third with 38 points.
Bahir Dar City beat Shashemene City 1-0 in the second game of the day. It was a good result for Bahir Dar as it moved them up the table into fifth place.
They put a lot of pressure on the defensively resolute Shashemene City in the first half as the game remained goalless for most of the first half.
However, Cherinet Gugsa broke the deadlock on 39 minutes with a cool finish from a break to give Bahir Dar a 1-0 lead.
They held on to the lead for all three points which moved them to 32 points and fifth place on the log.
The Bahir Dar players dedicated the win to their late midfield stalwart Alelign Azene, who passed away recently.
