Mekelakeya beat Hawassa City 3-2 in a five-goal thriller to keep up with league leaders, Ethiopia Nigd Bank and St George were forced to a 1-1 draw by Hadiya Hossana.

St George looked like turning around their faltering season when Bereket Wolde gave them a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute.

Hadiya Hossana rescued the points late on in the game with an equalizer in the 71st minute from Umed Ukuwari.

The result leaves St George in fourth place with 40 points, the same as fifth-placed Fasil Kenema and four points behind Bahir Dar in third place.

However, their chances of challenging for the title look very slim, with leaders Ethiopia Nigd Bank on 53 points, a whopping 13 points ahead, and second-placed Mekelakeya, who are 10 points ahead on 50 points.

Mekelakeya came from behind to salvage a 3-2 win over Hawassa City, who shot ahead in the 14th minute through Ali Suleiman.

Kenean Markeneh equalized for Mekelakeya in the 36th minute and the teams went into the break tied at 1-1.

Ali Suleiman restored Hawassa's lead with his brace from the penalty spot in the 52nd minute.

Kenean Markeneh again equalized for Mekelakeya in the 69th minute and it became a fiery contest.

Mekelakeya had the last laugh with ten minutes to go, and it was a great team goal that was finished by Abdou Moutalabou, with the final score 3-2 in favour of Mekelakeya.
