Despite a terrible start to the DStv Premiership season SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has been impressed by the youngsters that have been thrown into the deep end.

From five league matches, SuperSport have only won once [beating Richards Bay FC 1-0], drew twice [against Chippa United and Orlando Pirates 1-1 and 0-0 respectively] while the other two games were defeats [2-1 against AmaZulu and 2-0 against TS Galaxy].

Matsatsantsa were also eliminated in the first round of the MTN8 Cup competition where they were defeated 2-0 by Tshwane rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.

With the club losing some of their big players and not being able to sign new blood, Hunt has opted to rope in some of the DStv Diski Challenge players who were part of the team that finished second last season.

So far, Hunt has been impressed by the young blood's potential and said he was pleased with what he saw from the young players after their goalless draw against Orlando Pirates and the recent defeat against Sundowns in the cup match.

“We have a lot of young players and they’ll have to learn the hard way. But it is what it is. The youngster tried their best,” Hunt said.

“The Diski Challenge players we brought on were great.[Sibusiso] Maziko was good. Neo [Rapoo] and Yandisa [Mfolozi] played their first game against Sundowns and I thought they were brilliant.

“We are going to build a big team here with these young players. This will be a great team in the future.”

Hunt, however, has to find a way to get his young prospects firing before it is too late because he will be judged by the current results, which have not been impressive so far.

Hunt and his side are preparing for another big battle against Tshwane rivals, Sundowns in a DStv Premiership match at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Friday evening.

The kick-off is scheduled for 7:30pm CAT (SA, GMT+2).
