Junior featherweight boxer Skumbuzo Ximba dies

It has been reported that four-fight novice boxer, Skhumbuzo Ximba, passed away at the Hillbrow hospital in Johannesburg on Friday.

Ximba from Manzamhlophe in Empangeni, in KwaZulu-Natal, was admitted to the hospital after collapsing in a Hillbrow gymnasium shortly after finishing four rounds of sparring on Friday afternoon.

It has been reported that the sparring was stopped by his uncle, KZN Natal junior-welterweight champion, Lindokuhle Dlamini, who removed the gloves before he collapsed.

Ximba was training for a fight that was scheduled to take place at a Boxing 5’s tournament to be held at the Box Camp in Booysens on Friday night.

He was transported to hospital and breathing with the assistance of a machine but, unfortunately he passed away on Friday afternoon.

It was reported that he was once injured when he was hit on the head with a stick some time ago.

He only scored one victory in four fights and his last two losses were on knockouts.

In his most recent fight on 23 June 2023 he was badly knocked out in the third round.

France Ramabolu survives crash in bakkie

Former WBF International, Africa junior middleweight, and WBF International super middleweight champion France “Fighting Time” Ramabolu was considered lucky to survive a car crash in Meyerton on Saturday.

He was treated at the Magoerane Hospital on the East Rand before being dismissed.

Asemahle Wellem retains WBF International title

Asemahle Wellem retained the WBF International super-middleweight title when fighting to a draw with Selemani Kidunda in Tanzania on Friday night.

The scores were 114-113 Kidunda, 114-111 Wellem and 113-113.

Kevin Lerena fights in Saudi Arabia on Friday night

South Africa’s World Boxing Council bridgerweight interim champion Kevin “Two Guns” Lerena meets Justin Hunt from Australia in a heavyweight bout at the Kingdom Arena in Riyad, Saudi Arabia, on Friday night.

In Riyad, Lerena (30-2; 14) will face the undefeated prospect from Australia, who has eight wins with four inside the distance.

Their fight will form part of the event that will be headlined by the heavyweight clash between Englishman Joshua and Francis Ngannou, a mixed-martial arts star from Cameroon, who is based in France.

Chinese Zhilei Zhang will face Kiwi Joseph Parker for the WBO interim heavyweight title.
