Former Black Leopards’ skipper Robert Ng’ambi has given an update on his infant coaching career back home in Malawi, as he works towards his dream of managing a PSL club.

The CAF C-Licence holder spoke to SuperSport.com when asked about his coaching career progress at Mighty Tigers FC in Malawi’s elite TNM Super League.

The former Platinum Stars midfielder admitted that he reluctantly ventured into coaching after being coaxed by the then Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president to take charge of his Walter Nyamilandu Academy in Blantyre in 2022.

“Coaching is progressing well and I am starting to love it. Challenges will always be there for a young coach. The transition from playing to coaching has never been easy, but with the help of the other coaches, I am now starting to settle and know a few basics through the courses I have attended,” he said.

Joining the academy’s coaching staff kick-started Ng’ambi's coaching career as he eventually landed an assistant coaching role at Tigers last season.

The former Flames playmaker said he will take all steps before aiming for a big coaching gig.

“My ambition is to coach one of the big teams in Malawi, the national team and even in the PSL. First, I need to build myself and collect enough knowledge, as it is not easy. It is a process. I know that one day I will coach one of the big teams,” he said.

FAM has since named Ng’ambi among the 48 coaches earmarked for a CAF B-Licence course from August 18 to October 18 in Blantyre.

The 37-year-old had an illustrious career in the PSL, starting with Leopards between 2005 and 2012. He eventually joined Platinum Stars and won the 2013 MTN8 and Telkom KnockOut trophies. He rejoined Lidoda Duvha for a last dance before calling it time on his 19-year playing career in 2020.
