We deserved maximum points against Sundowns - Richards Bay coach
Richards Bay FC coach Nkosenhle Ngema felt that his troops deserved all three points from their 2-2 draw against Mamelodi Sundowns in the DStv Diski Challenge on Sunday.
However, their individual mistakes saw them being held to a draw in the last festival of the year at Wits Stadium.
Sundowns had drawn first blood in the fourth minute. Regardless, Natal Rich Boys were able to bounce back and scored two goals by Yanela Mbuthuma and Langelihle Mhlongo before halftime.
Nevertheless, the lads who are playing their first season in the Diski Challenge failed to protect their lead, and Downs got an equaliser.
The Young Brazilians should have wrapped it up in the dying minutes when they were awarded a penalty, but Riandre Vries' spot-kick struck the post.
After the match, Ngema said he was unsatisfied with his youngsters’ commitment level.
Ngema said: “It was a beautiful game, but I feel we should have got more than one point.
“Our individual mistakes have been an Achilles heel for us. We gave Sundowns a gift in the first goal, we should have done better there. Not only in this match. There are also other games that we drew and lost and we should have won.”
In other Diski Challenge results this weekend, Cape Town City's winless run was extended to three matches as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Golden Arrows.
Luphumlo Sifumba and Luke Daniels scored for The Citizens, while Mthokozisi Duma scored a brace for Arrows.
League reigning champions Stellenbosch FC continued with their fine form as they thumped Royal AM 4-0.
