Duanne Olivier took a couple of early wickets to keep the Dafabet Warriors in contention in the post-lunch session of day three of their CSA 4-Day Series match against WSB Western Province at WSB Newlands on Saturday. At tea, Western Province was on 65 for four.

Western Province has a 263-run lead over the Warriors, with six wickets in hand. The home side won the toss, elected to bat first and chalked a 464-run first-innings total. They then bowled the visitors out for 266 in their reply. Western Province had David Bedingham (43*) and George Linde (1*) at the crease at the break.

Western Province was four wickets down thanks to some great work by the Warriors' frontline bowlers. As they did on the first morning of play, Duanne Olivier and Beyers Swanepoel made early inroads into the home side's top order. Olivier dismissed Tony de Zorzi and Eddie Moore in the first seven overs of their second innings. Swanepoel backed that effort up with the dismissal of Valentine Kitime just over 10 overs later. Siya Plaatjie capped it off with the dismissal of Kyle Verreynne shortly before tea.

Earlier in the afternoon, Western Province had made light work of what remained of the Warriors' tail after lunch. The home side needed two wickets and Mthiwekhaya Nabe obliged by cleaning up the remaining wickets in back-to-back overs. Western Province did not need to take 10 wickets because Jiveshan Pillay was injured in the field on day one and hasn't been able to take to the field. Western Province took a 198-run lead into the second innings.

Kyle Simmonds was the most successful bowler for Western Province with four wickets for 66 runs in 34.1 overs. This is his 14th first-class four-wicket haul. Nabe finished with three wickets for 56 runs in 17.5 overs.
