Penalties could be needed on Saturday when Lamontville Golden Arrows and Mamelodi Sundowns clash in the semifinals of the Telkom Knockout, but history suggests this is a fixture that rarely finishes even.

The last 15 tussles between the two sides has seen just one draw, with Sundowns claiming 11 victories in that time and Golden Arrows three.

One of those victories for Abafana Bes’thende came earlier this month when they rallied from a goal down to defeat Sundowns 3-2 in torrential rain in the Absa Premiership.

It is rare to have a fixture that has so few draws, but a sign perhaps that both teams tend to ‘go for it’ when they clash.

Fans will hope that is the case on Saturday, with Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane no doubt still smarting from a game he feels his side should never have lost before the international break.
