Stellenbosch booked themselves a spot in the MTN8 semifinal after they defeated TS Galaxy 3-1 at the Danie Craven Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Stellies looked to be well prepared for the game and had a positive start as they dominated the opening 15 minutes of play. However, despite looking like the better team, Galaxy opened the scoring through Kamogelo Sebelebele in the 17th minute.

The home team would quickly recover and continue to keep possession. The breakthrough eventually came in the 25th minute and didn’t take long for Jayden Adams to level matters. Stellenbosch were in the driving seat as the game grew more competitive.

Just before the stroke of halftime, Andre De Jong grabbed the lead for Stellies as he headed home from a Fawaaz Basadien corner. The scoreline was 2-1 at the break, with the home team recovering well after falling behind.

In the second half, the Rockets looked more alive as the match progressed and they began to win more set piece opportunities. But once again, Steve Barker’s men were prepared and scored once again through Basadien.

The team would hold onto their lead as the match ended 3-1 at the Danie Craven Stadium. The result catapults Stellenbosch into the semifinal of the competition.
