Polokwane City have gone three points clear at the top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship table following their win in one of four mid-week matches.

Rise and Shine secured a 3-1 triumph away to Casric Stars at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium on Wednesday, putting daylight between themselves and nearest chasers Hungry Lions, who could only draw 1-1 at home to Pretoria University at the Windhoek Draught Park Stadium.

Lions looked on course to claim victory after Angelo van Rooi had put them ahead early in the second half, but AmaTuks struck back through Samuel Julies to salvage a share of the spoils and pave the way for Polokwane to open a three-point advantage.

Elsewhere on Wednesday, JDR Stars trumped Venda FC 2-0 at Soshanguve Stadium via goals from Thokozani Lukhele and Alphonia Lekeno, bringing them into the top five of the log standings.

Tuesday’s lone match saw Platinum City Rovers return to winning form, as they edged hosts Uthongathi FC 1-0 at the Princess Magogo Stadium thanks to a second-half strike from Olaleng Shaku.

The MFC will continue this weekend with five matches scheduled across Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 October, headlined by Pretoria University and Hungry Lions hosting Casric Stars and Tshakhuma TM respectively.
