Pretoria University are the new leaders of the Motsepe Foundation Championship after they were the only team in the top five to claim a victory this weekend, while Casric Stars, Venda FC, Pretoria Callies and Polokwane City also racked up wins.

The round opened on Friday, 30 September, with Pretoria University going to the top of the log on 11 points with a 2-0 away win over JDR Stars at Soshanguve Giant Stadium. Nhlanhla Zwane and Kamohelo Pheeane struck in the second half for AmaTuks.

Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila, All Stars and Uthongathi FC could have usurped Pretoria University on Saturday, but all missed out on victory:

TTM were held 1-1 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in a Limpopo derby with Magesi FC, while All Stars and Uthongathi played out a goalless stalemate at Tsakane Stadium.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Casric Stars crushed Black Leopards 3-1 at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium thanks to goals from Kgomotos Mosadi, Mumuni Abubakar and Mpho Khabane; Venda FC edged Baroka FC 1-0 in another Limpopo derby thanks to Rhulani Manzini’s first-half strike; and Pretoria Callies took down NB La Masia 2-1 at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Sunday saw another side, Hungry Lions, with the chance to overtake Pretoria University, but they were beaten 2-0 by Polokwane City at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The weekend closed with Tuks top on 11 points, TTM in second on 10, while Uthongathi, All Stars and Hungry Lions all have nine points.
