George Linde registered his highest first-class score and Kyle Simmonds ran through the Dafabet Warriors top-order with the ball as they helped the WSB Western Province take control of their CSA 4-Day Series match on day two at WSB Newlands on Friday.

At stumps, the Warriors were on 187-5.

The Warriors trail Western Province by 277 runs with five wickets in hand.

Western Province, who won the toss and elected to bat first, surged to a first-innings score of 464 thanks to some inspired batting from Linde.

The Warriors had Senuran Muthusamy (41*) and Beyers Swanepoel (22*) at the crease at the close of play.

Linde played a brilliant innings on his way to 152 off 245 deliveries. This is Linde's sixth first-class century. He came into the match with a career-best score of 148.

Linde's century created a solid platform for the tail to come in and play their shots.

Dane Paterson and Beuran Hendricks added 42 runs in 11 overs for the ninth wicket, before Paterson and Mthiwekhaya Nabe's 10th-wicket partnership contributed another 42 runs in 9.5 overs.

THREE WICKETS FOR SIMMONDS

Western Province proved to be as good with the ball as they are with the bat.

Their bowling attack saw to it that the Warriors' batters did not settle into a groove.

Paterson destabilised the visitors with the early wicket of Jordan Hermann. Paterson dismissed Hermann in the second over of the match.

The visitors found themselves pushed further onto the back foot when Simmonds came into the attack.

The left-arm orthodox spinner was outstanding as he bagged three wickets in the post-lunch session to turn the screws on the Warriors.

The 30-year-old dismissed three of the Warriors' top four batters, Matthew Breetzke, Matthew de Villiers and Andile Mogakane.

Breetzke held the Warriors' innings together with great panache. The Warriors captain registered his 16th first-class half-century in the period.

He faced 88 deliveries to reach the milestone. However, unfortunately for the Warriors, Breetzke was dismissed immediately after reaching his half-ton.

Sinethemba Qeshile (36) and Muthusamy held things together with a valiant 59-run fifth-wicket partnership.

However, it wasn't enough. Muthusamy carried on the fight with Swanepoel after Qeshile's dismissal.

At stumps, their partnership was unbroken on 45 runs.

Simmonds was the pick of the bowlers for Western Province with three wickets for 55 runs in 25.1 overs.

Paterson and Mthiwekhaya Nabe were the other wicket-takers with a single wicket each.
