ZESCO hope to keep early season form going in MTN Super League

ZESCO United’s early season good form will face another test when they host Mufulira Wanderers on Sunday, hoping to extend their sizeable five-point lead at the top of the MTN Super League.

It is very early days still, but ZESCO have taken 13 points from a possible 15 so far this campaign and have looked back to something like their best.

They have lost just one of their last 29 home matches in the Super League (W18 D10) ad have never lost at home to Wanderers (W4 D2).

Champions Red Arrows are back in domestic action after their stay in the CAF Champions League was ended by TP Mazembe last weekend.

They travel to Mutondo Stars looking to build on a solid start to their title defence having taken seven points from three games so far. Arrows won both matches last season on their way to the title and will expect to do so again.

Nkana FC go to promoted Atletico Lusaka in a clash between two sides with identical records at the start of the season. They have one win, one defeat and three draws each for a total of six points.

Nkana’s single victory did come on the road at NAPSA Stars, while both Atletico’s home matches have been drawn.

Both FC MUZA and Zanaco have been in mixed form this season and will have hoped to start the campaign better with five points from a possible 15.

They clash having drawn both matches last season, and the year before recorded a home win each.

Nchanga Rangers’ form at the start of the campaign has been up and down but they go to NAPSA Stars, who have a single win in five matches. Stars have been fairly dominant at home against Rangers in the past with six wins from eight (D1 L1).

There are also four games to be played on Saturday, including Green Buffaloes’ trip to Power Dynamos.

Dynamos are unbeaten this season but have drawn four of their five games, while Buffaloes have also tended to blow hot and cold.

Matches between these sides have been even down the years, in the last 35 league meetings there have been 13 wins apiece and nine draws, meaning it couldn’t be any tighter. That includes a home win each last season.

Kabwe Warriors will host Forest Rangers after a decent start to the campaign for both in which they are unbeaten. Warriors (W2 D2) and Rangers (W1 D4) will hope to continue their run.

Lumwana Radiants host Indeni and Nkwazi welcome Green Eagles in the two other matches on the day.
