Chiefs move to the top, Sundowns drop points again

Kaizer Chiefs returned to the DStv Diski Challenge summit following an impressive victory over Marumo Gallants.

Amakhosi thumped Gallants 3-0 at Seshego Stadium in Polokwane to return to the top of the log with 45 points from 29 matches.

They are now a point ahead of second-placed Stellenbosch FC who are the league’s reigning champions.

Naledi Hlongwane continued with his fine form, scoring his eighth goal of the season plus an assist on the day.

The other goals came from Siyabonga Gumede, who was playing his first match after being out for 14 months due to an injury.

Imaad Hendricks scored the third goal of the match, ensuring Amakhosi made it three victories in a row.

In their matches that took place over the weekend, Orlando Pirates continued with their form and they are now among the teams that are chasing the title.

Pirates defeated Golden Arrows 1-0, thanks to Camran Dansin's first-minute goal.

The win saw Pirates moving to fourth place in the log with 40 points, five behind Chiefs.

Mamelodi Sundowns, who are also in the run for the title, were stunned 1-0 by Magesi FC.

Sabulela Ntombela scored the solitary goal of the match, which saw them completing a double over Sundowns this season.

Sundowns remain in position five with 39 points from 20 matches.
